The Development of a Thelemite School of Ceremonial Magick from the Cipher Key in the Book of the Law

After finding the Key to the Order & Value of the English Alphabet in 1983 I naturally developed the practices that are hidden in the code of the Book of the Law. I examined the Book of the Law thoroughly in order to glean every detail of its teachings that I could apprehend. First I expanded the formula in verse 76 of the Second Chapter and developed the ceremony that it describes, called The Supreme Ritual by the text of the Book of the Law. Over a period of many years I slowly compiled a very full instruction in the Magick of Thelema, as would be expected of the person who first discerns the key to its many mysteries.

In 1996 I completed a series of astral journeys on the twenty-two paths of Sepher Yetzirah which resulted in my taking the Golden Dawn Grade of Exempt Adept, essentially releasing me from my previous oaths of secrecy to that school of occult study. In fact one of the requirements for passing on further and assuming the Grade of Master of the Temple is to make a record of the discipline that has led to such a rare opportunity for initiation and advancement in the Golden Dawn method of attainment. Consequently I compiled a volume entitled “The Hermetica- a manual of self initiation”, as yet unpublished. The Hermetica assembled for the first time all of the Thelemite practices that I had deciphered from the Book of the Law by using the Key that I had found.

At about this same time my communications with other students of Thelemite Magick led me to the conclusion that what was first needed was a book that defined the operational space and tools of the Thelemite Ceremonial Magician. I consequently wrote “The Magick Weapons- a guide to the tools of the Ceremonial Magician” which I began to distribute privately to people who were also studying the occult arts. During this period I also wrote a number of elementary essays on occultism mostly for publication privately and on the internet.

In recent years I have taken on a limited number of students for private tuition in Ceremonial Magick which has necessitated the compilation of a graduated method for learning magick and progressing towards a fuller attainment. To date I have codified all of this graded material for the first four of six grades of instruction fully and I am currently formatting it for submission to my publisher- when the time comes. Finally, I have begun work of a comment on the Book of the Law as the discoverer of the cipher key is instructed to by the Book of the Law itself. Ironically, this is the volume that I feel needs to be published first as it explains most fully how I arrived at my interpretations of the material hidden in the text of the Book of the Law.

In addition the Book of the Law has suggested material for several more volumes of occult instruction covering a number of related topics such as Qabalah, Tarot, Gematria and the Sacred Magick & the Holy Guardian Angel. Given time I will compile these books and the material that I have already written into the first comprehensive instruction in occult studies in a century.

After years of study and of compiling all of the details needed from the text of the Book of the Law to expound upon the Qabalah and the Magick in the text I determined that I would finally write the Comment on the Book of the Law that it was incumbent upon the Child of the Beast to compose in order to fulfill his commitment to Aiwass. Upon reflection I decided that it was this Comment that would explain the complete ramifications of the Key to the Order & Value of the English Alphabet best. It was from this kind of line by line analysis of the Book of the Law that I had been able to decipher most of what I had gleaned from the text. The work taken to compile this comment has lasted for two years, so far, as it is a meticulous process and involves considering each passage of the Book from a number of possible perspectives, subjectively yet dispassionately, to draw out the essential meaning of the verse. That has been my goal. Of course no one person is going to discover all of the secrets hidden in the Book of the Law and so many of my comments will of course be open to challenge, but I feel that this is one purpose of the command in the Book of the Law that the one chosen should write such a book of his own interpretation.
